  The service was excellent and Lee and the other staff wasvery good.

Tower Restaurant at Houstoun House is part of Macdonald Houstoun House Hotel at Uphall in West Lothian. Over the course of his career, the eponymous chef has cooked for many notables and won many awards including a Michelin star. His restaurant in Uphall has two AA Rosettes for its beautifully presented, modern Scottish cuisine. Set in a 16th century tower, the wood panelled dining room is an elegant space. Light and airy by day, it assumes a candlelit romance as night falls.

Locally sourced, seasonal ingredients

Locally sourced ingredients are at the heart of Chef Wares’ menus and foraged herbs, flowers and fruits often feature on the plate. Typical starters might be the beetroot-cured salmon with lardo and pork fat grissini; the hand-dived scallop with roe mayonnaise, black oil and salsify or the West Coast mussels in a garlic and Belhaven beer sauce.
Popular main courses include a duck breast with seared foie gras and halibut with brown shrimp pasta in a bisque. Naturally, there is always steak on the menu including a sharing cut.
