It was our first time visiting, we’ll definely be going back.
The chicken tempura was gorgeous and I really enjoyed the chicken fajitas. The cocktails were lovely too, nicer than most places.I highly recommend the raspberry & elderflower cocktail and the koko-nut & pineapple daiquiri.
The staff were really friendly and the £25 two courses for two people deal is great value for money!

A gastropub bar and grill on Merrylee Road, The White Elephant is a welcoming spot in Cathcart. Subtly divided into several distinct areas, the interior is an appealing mix and match of eclectic furniture and designer lighting. The function suite is popular with the local community; especially its younger members who enjoy the soft play area when there are no functions. The extensive, south-facing beer garden is deservedly busy whenever the sun peeks out.
The kitchen at The White Elephant produces dishes with a wide appeal. Among the starters are well travelled options such as Asian beef salad, lamb koftas and couscous cakes. The pub grub section of the menu is packed with classics such as fish ‘n’ chips, braised shin of beef with mash and a curried lamb shank.
Naturally, there is a burger selection – including a crab, coriander and chilli version – and a range of innovative gourmet sandwiches like the Earl Grey hot smoked salmon bagel. Arguably, the pick of the bunch is the chef’s selection which might feature rabbit cottage pie; Mull cheddar soufflé or the Three Little Piggies – braised cheek, confit belly and fillet of pork with cauliflower purée and dauphinoise potatoes.
The White Elephant is on Merrylee Road, just off the B767 Clarkston Road in Glasgow’s Southside. There is limited on-street parking and the restaurant/bar also has its own parking. Cathcart and Muirend are the closest train stations. Local attractions include Cathcart Bowling Club and Newlands Park.
