Decked out in the jaunty colours of the Greek flag, Halloumi is a Greek-Cypriot mezze restaurant on Hope Street. A bright, cheery space, it is a friendly spot for a quick lunch, a pre-theatre bite or a lively evening meal with friends.
‘Inspired by Greece. Made in Glasgow. Small plates. Big flavours’ is how Halloumi describes itself. And with a menu that ranges from a classic lamb moussaka to avocado and feta on toasted flatbread, it is easy to see where they are coming from.
As well as an appealing selection of dips and pitta, the menu is separated into seafood, grills, salads and classic old favourites such as stifado beef stew and spanakopita – filo pastry with a spinach and goat’s cheese filling. The grill section has a tempting list of souvlaki – marinated BBQ – and the seafood offer includes skewers of swordfish and prawns alongside seared octopus flavoured with smoked paprika.
With an express lunch menu, a pre-theatre and a full a la carte, Halloumi has plenty of options designed to meet diners’ varied requirements.
Halloumi is on Hope Street in between West George Street and St Vincent Street. Queen Street and Central train stations are both a five minute walk. There is limited on-street parking and pay car parking at Mitchell Street and Bath Street. Nearby attractions include Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Cineworld and the Pavilion.
