First visit, excellent food. I had the stuffed pasta with goats cheese and asparagus with cream, followed by Profiteroles.

We had a two course for £13 - at Christmas time this is great value and the food was very nice. Service was also excellent

Established in 2005, Gali is a family-run Italian restaurant on West Maitland Street. Popular with West End shoppers and local workers during the day, at night it pulls in visitors to the city, family groups celebrating, friends out for a meal and couples keen on a romantic dinner. Decorated with quirky pictures of pasta fans, Gali is a friendly, casual spot for an Italian meal.
As well as keenly priced lunch and pre-theatre menus, Gali has an extensive a la carte. There are numerous pizza and pasta options including the house pizza topped with smoked salmon and capers. There is always a fresh fish of the day alongside seafood options like the tiger prawns with garlic, white wine, onions and a touch of lemon.
From veal to steaks via chicken and lamb, there is a great choice of meat dishes. Many regional recipes are offered with Calabrian lamb recipes vying for attention with Sicilian and Tuscan veal dishes. Pride of place goes to the house steak – Scottish beef fillet topped with asparagus and served in a demi-glace sauce with brandy and cream. Profiteroles, tiramisu and ice creams bring everything to a sweet finish.
Gali is on West Maitland Street in Edinburgh’s West End. A two minute walk from Haymarket train station and the tram line, Gali is handy for the Edinburgh International Conference Centre and en route to Murrayfield.
