Housed in a striking conservatory within a pretty courtyard, Crolla’s Italian Kitchen is part of Eskmills, a thoughtful redevelopment of a former mill site in Musselburgh. As well as an opulent bar, the restaurant’s ultra-modern glass construction is another talking point.
The chefs at Crolla’s Italian Kitchen offer a wide range of Italian dishes. In addition to a good selection of cichetti, or Italian tapas, there are several antipasti choices such as calamari, mussels in white wine and sharing platters of charcuterie, grilled Mediterranean veg and Italian cheeses.
Naturally, there are lots of pizza and pasta options along with classic meat dishes such as Milanese veal and sirloin steaks served on a bed of rocket and Parmesan shavings.
The seafood options come highly recommended and range from fritto misto, made with Scottish fish and shellfish, to the hot seafood platter with a half lobster, sea bass, mussels, prawns and scallops, all sautéed with garlic, lemon, white wine and garlic.
The lunch menu offers very good value.
Crolla’s Italian Kitchen is on Station Road in Musselburgh. Nearby attractions include Musselburgh Racecourse and Musselburgh Old Course Golf Club. The nearest train station is Musselburgh. Several buses run to and from Edinburgh city centre. A ten minute drive from the city centre, there is ample parking on site.
