The sister restaurant of the Old Town branch, Michael’s Grill and Seafood Place offers steak, seafood and cocktails in an intimate setting. The decor is simple, casual and cheerful with rustic stone walls and a mellow vibe. Expect local, fresh and sustainable Scottish seafood like Shetland mussels and East Lothian crab, alongside quality cuts of steak.
The seafood menu at Michael’s includes Loch Fyne oysters in a choice of sauces like Scottish vodka bloody mary, or sustainable rope grown Shetland Mussels, again with flavoursome sauces like curried coconut, scallion and cilantro.
Or maybe you will be tempted by the hot shellfish platter, or the half Eyemouth lobster served chilled in crushed ice or grilled in classic thermidor style with buttered samphire.
Over in the grill section, you can take your pick from centre cut fillet, prime rib, middle sirloin and thick cut rump steaks. All are served with beef dripping, hand-cut skin-on chips, a grilled plum tomato and watercress salad. Sauce choices include green peppercorn & brandy, bearnaise and garlic & herb.
On Sundays, you can tuck into a sumptuous roast with all the trimmings.
Michael’s is right next King George V Park in New Town. It is also a brisk stroll away from both the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and the Royal Botanic Garden. On street pay parking is available.
