The Waterfront is a stylish restaurant, bar and terrace with spectacular views over the River Ayr all the way to Arran.
A previous winner of the Food Awards Scotland 2017 ‘Gastro Pub of the Year’, this is the place to head for a relaxed meal, seasonal cocktail or perfectly chilled glass of Champagne. Expect a range of seafood and gastropub fare, including hearty Scottish classics and international favourites.
Sample starters at The Waterfront include prawn cocktail with apple sticks, radish and croutons; chicken liver pate with red onion chutney and oatcakes, and goats cheese bruschetta with sun-blushed tomato & garlic. Veggies can try out the restaurant’s own falafels with garden pea hummus and herb salad.
Over in the mains, you can enjoy crowd-pleasing pub food such as steak & ale pie with puff pastry, market vegetables and mashed potato; beer-battered fish & chips, and mac ’n’ cheese with garlic bread.
For a more international option, try out the vegetable tempura with oriental soy & chilli dipping sauce, mango salad and chopped peanuts.
The restaurant is on South Harbour Street, great for exploring the rest of Ayr such as its riverside, beach and shops.
If you want to make a day or evening of it then you could visit the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum or head to a show at the town’s Gaiety Theatre. Or if you are dining out with kids, then why not start your day at Pirate Petes Family Entertainment Centre before tucking into a scenic meal afterwards?
